Kato Paphos and the Harbour
Base · 1–3 days
The essential first stop for the Archaeological Park’s Roman mosaics, ancient theatre, harbour walk and castle. Stay here for easy sightseeing, but get to the exposed ruins at opening rather than after lunch.
Pano Paphos / Ktima
Base · 1–2 days
The older upper town is where Paphos feels lived-in: better-value cafés, tavernas and everyday shopping streets than the harbour strip. Come for ordinary urban Cyprus, not a polished old-town set piece.
Kouklia, Palaipafos and Petra tou Romiou
Short stop · 1 day
Pair the compact Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia with Petra tou Romiou’s dramatic sea stack for the region’s clearest mythology-and-history day out. The rock is a viewpoint and rough-pebble shore, not an all-day beach.
Peyia, Coral Bay, Sea Caves and Agios Georgios
Short stop · 1 day
This is the easy west-coast beach belt: Coral Bay for straightforward sandy swimming, then sea caves and Agios Georgios for a sunset drive. It is convenient rather than wild, and gets crowded in summer.
Akamas, Avakas Gorge and Lara
Short stop · 1 day
Paphos’s real nature country: scrubby peninsula trails, Avakas Gorge, turtle-nesting Lara and boat access toward the Blue Lagoon. Treat it as a hiking or boat day, not a carefree drive on whatever track a map app suggests.
Polis Chrysochous and Latchi
Base · 1–2 days
Use Polis and its fishing-harbour neighbour Latchi as the quieter northwest base for Akamas, Baths of Aphrodite and boat trips. It makes much more sense than attempting the peninsula as a rushed day trip from Paphos.
Laona–Akamas Wine Villages
Base · 1–2 days
Kathikas, Droushia, Ineia and the Arodes make the best inland loop for Xynisteri, Maratheftiko, rustic lunches and sea views. Pick one pre-booked winery and do not try to bolt this onto an Akamas or Lara day.
Panagia, Chrysorrogiatissa and Vouni Panagias–Ambelitis
Base · 2 days
The higher eastern interior is the serious wine-country option: cooler air, pine-country roads, monastery stops and wineries focused on indigenous grapes. It rewards a slow rural overnight more than a rushed bus excursion.
Geroskipou
Short stop · 1 day
Make a short detour for almond-studded loukoumia Geroskipou and the five-domed Agia Paraskevi church. It is suburban, so combine it with a food stop or nearby beach rather than treating it as a full-day destination.
Stavros tis Psokas and Cedar Valley
Short stop · 1 day
Remote Paphos Forest country of cedars, mouflon and slow forest roads, offering the region’s strongest break from beach-and-ruins Cyprus. It is a full-day car commitment with sparse services, so go prepared.
First visit: ruins, Aphrodite coast and one wine-country day
4 daysKato Paphos and the Harbour (1 day) → Pano Paphos / Ktima (1 day) → Kouklia, Palaipafos and Petra tou Romiou (1 day) → Laona–Akamas Wine Villages (1 day)
Keep one Paphos base and rent a car for the final two days. This is the right short break for first-timers: do the exposed archaeology early, pair Kouklia with Petra tou Romiou, then give the uplands a proper lunch-and-winery day rather than cramming in Akamas.
Plan this routeThe proper Páfos week: archaeology, beaches and Akamas
7 daysKato Paphos and the Harbour (2 days) → Kouklia, Palaipafos and Petra tou Romiou (1 day) → Laona–Akamas Wine Villages (1 day) → Polis Chrysochous and Latchi (2 days) → Akamas, Avakas Gorge and Lara (1 day)
Split the week between Paphos and Polis/Latchi rather than turning Akamas into an exhausting return day trip. Use Paphos for the UNESCO core and Aphrodite sites, then use the northwest base for a boat trip, Baths of Aphrodite or a trail, and one carefully planned Lara or Avakas day.

10 daysKato Paphos and the Harbour (3 days) → Peyia, Coral Bay, Sea Caves and Agios Georgios (1 day) → Panagia, Chrysorrogiatissa and Vouni Panagias–Ambelitis (2 days) → Stavros tis Psokas and Cedar Valley (1 day) → Polis Chrysochous and Latchi (2 days) → Akamas, Avakas Gorge and Lara (1 day)
For travelers who want more than resort coast, this gives the wine country an overnight and makes the forest a deliberate outing rather than an overambitious detour. The sequence works with a car: Paphos first, inland wine country next, then north to Polis/Latchi for the peninsula.

This is for repeat visitors or slow travelers with a car. It leaves room for a second archaeology morning, proper winery appointments, rural lunches and weather buffers for Akamas. Treat Kato and Pano Paphos as one practical urban base, and Polis/Latchi as the final coastal base; do not move hotels every night just because the itinerary names each day’s focus.
